The scalability of manufacturing processes is restricted by occurring size effects. The microstructure / geometry effect affects forming and primary shaping processes most as it limits the accurate mold filling through anisotropic material properties. Amorphous metals are not influenced by this effect. However, there is a lack of adequate manufacturing processes due to insufficient temperature regulation technology. The aim of this work is, therefore, to develop and qualify a warm pressing process with respect to the zircon-based amorphous metal named AMZ4. Basis for the development is the principle of beam assisted primary shaping and forming. The main feature is a transparent optic element that ensures direct beam transmission and force application within one part. The first step for process development is the dimensioning and construction of the manufacturing equipment by analysing the inupt, process and output parameters as well as performing a FMEA relating to the functions of the process. Within the pre process development, a general method of qualifying amorphous material systems and its optimal parameter combination is presented. Supported by the design of experiments method, the result of the detailed process develompent is a suitable process for manufacturing micro parts from amorphous metals. Within this, the laser beam intensity is identified as the most significant parameter for reaching the glass transition temperature and to avoid crystallisation. Accordingly, the ideal combination of pressure and time of beam application closes the pores and achieves a high density of parts, to compete with existing comparable processes. In addition, actions to optimize the manufacturing equipment and process control are shown. In conclusion, the results of this work contribute to an increased use of amorphous metals within manufacturing processes.-
