Abstract:
A new method to visualize local heat transfer coefficients on heat exchanger surfaces is presented and experimental measurement results on pipe flow, vortex generators, impinging jets, a spray cooling system and a plate heat exchanger are shown. The method relies on IR thermography to measure the heat transferring wall’s temperature response to an oscillating heat flux and a numerical wall model for the calculation of the heat transfer coefficients. This study of local heat transfer coefficients is completed with a comparison of CFD results to the measured data.
