Abstract
© Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2016 The paper is concerned with the employment of synthetic turbulent inflow conditions for an unique hybrid LES–URANS method. The utilization of an explicit algebraic Reynolds stress model for the unsteady Reynolds–averaged Navier–Stokes mode provides a reasonable prediction of the anisotropic near–wall turbulence within the hybrid method. In order to extend the scope of application of the hybrid model for industrially relevant flows, the influence of appropriate inflowconditions is evaluated based on two test cases. The relevance of the utilized inflow generator is presented by comparison of the results of a fully–developed channel flow with periodic boundary conditions and synthetically generated turbulent inflow conditions. As a further demanding benchmark the application of the periodic hill test case in combination with the inflow generator is presented and evaluated.
