Abstract
Facing technical and economical challenges, energy utilities and grid operators strive for a more efficient grid operation. This requires advanced control solutions featuring distributed controllers and decision making. It has been shown that agent based systems are a promising solution to this problem. Due to a lack of appropriate design workflows, engineering these systems has until now been a rather complex and difficult task, which resulted in individually designed solutions. To increase efficiency and reproducibility, a novel engineering approach is proposed which explicitly comprises the incorporation of industrial standards, the obedience of safety and security rules, and the elevated requirements of critical infrastructures.
