Abstract
The crossflow past a heated cylinder was investigated in the Reynolds number range of 0.001-40 and for temperature loadings 1.003 to 1.5. For the simulation a new blockwise local refinement procedure was employed. Comparison of this procedure with computations on conventional block structured grids demonstrates the advantages of the new method. The numerical investigation revealed a strong dependence of the drag coefficient on the size of the computational domain. The analysis of the Nusselt number results led to the suggestion of a different representation of this quantity.
