Since the act on the Energy Turnaround is in force, energy efficiency is in the focus of Germany’s public attention. The industry is one of the largest consumers of electricity in Germany. The rising energy prices increase the economic interest of companies in a reduction of the energy consumption during the manufacturing process. The biggest possibilities for an influence can be found in the early stages of the product development process. To use this potential, an integration of the requirement for a reduction of energy consumption must take place. Taking the example of the body in white, this paper describes a concept of how this energy requirement can be methodically integrated into the product development process, even shows a workflow and a web-based demonstrator.
